A West Cumbrian village hall has been chosen to benefit from charitable donations to help towards renovation costs.

Keekle Village Hall has been selected to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

The hall needs cash to improve its kitchen and toilets.

Marilyn Robinson, treasurer, said: "At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, we’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference in Keekle and the surrounding community.

"We are raising funds to renovate the village hall.

"Any funds raised through the Co-op Community Fund Scheme will be used to improve the hall kitchen and toilets.

"Whilst there are already monthly music nights, social events and seasonal fayres, this project will help to bring the village hall up to modern standards and enable us to provide a wider range of activities."

When a Co-op member buys selected products or services from one of the shop's branches they earn a five per cent reward for themselves, with a further one per cent for local causes.

People can choose a cause by going online www.coop.co.uk/membership.

Marilyn added: "We really hope that people will visit the website and choose to support us."
