St Benedict’s School held its annual GCSE achievement event, recognising students in various ways.

The awards ceremony showcased those high achieving Year 11 students who received their GCSE results in the summer. The awards recognised not only academic achievement but also students’ contribution to the wider life of the school.

Anna Woolaghan and Aaron Eldon, who both returned to the sixth form, received outstanding academic achievement awards.

There was also a Resilience & Ambition Award, which recognised success as a result of determination and resilience, something which is not measured in formal examinations.

This was won by Jessica Taylor who has continued her studies at St Benedict’s Sixth Form.

Two students, Darcy Kiddie and Aaron Eldon were both rewarded for 100 per cent attendance.

Headteacher Emma Jackson said: “It was lovely to welcome the students to the first awards evening I have attended as headteacher. We are delighted with how well this particular cohort performed in their GCSE year. They showcase everything that is good about St Benedicts, including our high levels of academic achievement and our successes in other areas such as sport and the arts.”

Mrs Warneford, who was Director of Learning for the Year 11’s commented: “It was great to welcome the students back to celebrate their successes last year. I am very proud of what they all achieved, and would like to wish them all the best for their futures.”

As well as the subject awards, there was also special awards handed out for various achievements, as well as awards for STEM and Arts subjects.

The award ceremony took place at the school on Monday night when many of last term’s GCSE students returned for the occasion.
