FUNDRAISING for a summer event is already underway, and a coffee morning has given the first ray of sunshine to its organisers.

The morning of coffee, chatting and cakes took place at Gosforth Library earlier this month, raising money for Picnic in the Park.

The family-orientated event will take place over VE Weekend in May 2020, with West Cumbrian groups and charities playing their part, including Mountain Rescue teams and MokyFit, amongst many more.

And the fun-filled weekend's plans are already on a roll, with over 60 people attending the coffee morning, raising over £530 for the summer event.

Councillors Paul Turner and Andy Pratt made an appearance at the coffee morning, and enjoyed a catch-up with the village residents.

Organiser Rachel Unsworth said: "The support of our coffee morning was positive, and we look forward to putting on a fantastic VE Weekend next year."

The coffee morning team also thanked The Wild Olive, Floor Coverings West Cumbria, Gosforth Hall, Gosforth Bakery, Denton House Café, Simply Fresh, Beckplace Services, Vanity Case and Robinson & Co for donating prizes for the raffle.
