Style sparkled as shoppers bagged some festive treats and while doing their bit to raise money for children.

Carlisle’s Gold, Frankincense and More Christmas Fair was one of Cumbria’s most glamorous Christmas shopping events – with all monies raised going to support the NSPCC.

This year the team had wanted to smash the total raised last year and have confirmed they have beaten the £12,500 but are still counting the donations.

The event was held at The Shepherds, Rosehill, Carlisle and it was a great success.

A wide selection of independent stallholders, selling unique and luxury gift items were available, were helping the charity raise the vital funds, ahead of the busy Christmas season.

The charity raise funds, especially at this time of the year, as last Christmas, there were 7,157 Childline counselling sessions between December 24, 2018, and January 4.

And, the Childline counsellors aren’t able to respond to one in three children who need help.

One in five children in the UK have suffered abuse and the NSPCC’s Light for Every Childhood campaign wants to shine a light for children feeling unloved, invisible and alone.

Just £4 it could pay for one trained volunteer to answer a child’s cry for help.

Juliet Westoll MBE, chairwoman of the north Cumbria branch fundraising committee, which has organised the special event, said: “This year’s popular Christmas shopping event promised to be bigger and better than ever before.

“More than 40 independent pop-up shops came together for this unique festive event.

“It was a special chance to do all your Christmas shopping under one roof, and at the same time support the very important and sensitive work the NSPCC do here in Cumbria.”

Sandra Jones, the local community fundraising manager for the NSPCC is very happy with the success of the event, she said: “We are incredibly pleased by the success of this year’s Gold, Frankincense and More fair.

“ It’s always encouraging to see people in Carlisle come and support the work of the NSPCC, and we appreciate how hard each one of our volunteers worked to make sure the event ran smoothly.

“Every single person involved in one of our events has helped us continue our work to prevent child cruelty.”

“The money that’s raised in Carlisle stays in Carlisle, and goes towards supporting local children through our service centre and school assemblies.”
