A man is in critical condition after a crash involving a lorry.

Just after 10am this morning emergency services were called to a crash involving a van and a lorry.

It happened on the northbound carriageway on the A74(M) at junction 20 near Eaglesfield.

The driver of the van, a 34-year-old man, was taken by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where hospital staff describe his condition as critical.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

Inspector Campbell Moffat of the Roads Policing Unit said: "We have been made aware from another witness that two men in a white coloured van, possibly a Mercedes Sprinter, travelling northbound, stopped at the scene at the time of the crash this morning.

"We would like to speak to these two men. Inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing and the Procurator Fiscal has been informed."

Sergeant Billy Broatch from the Road Policing Division based at Lockerbie is appealing for any witnesses to the crash or anyone who has dash-cam footage to please call 101.
