In less than four years a dance school in Carlisle has amassed an impressive collection of silverware, recently bringing home five trophies from a national competition.

Members of Carlisle Dance Academy trained hard to wow the judges at Major Dance Events held in Liverpool.

The troop is based on Lorne Crescent, Denton Holme, and has more than 600 pupils in Carlisle and Wigton, ageing from 16 months to 85 years.

In Carlisle, it has a purpose-built studio with huge mirrors to help the dancers perfect their moves.

Travelling down to Liverpool for the event was a huge moment for the dance school which has made fast progress in the few years it has been active.

The dance group entered a number of different teams for the competition including, The Tinies Team, who put on an amazing show dancing to One Jump from Aladdin.

The youngsters, who were in the age seven and under category, managed to fight off the competition and came third out of six teams.

The Junior Team, 14 and under, danced to Elephant Graveyard from the Lion King.

Against 11 other acts, they manage to just miss out on the top spot and finished second.

The Senior Team, 18 and under, picked up third place out of nine dancing to Born Ready.

But the school’s biggest winners were the Juvenile Team who took first place out of 11 acts in the age 10 and under category for their performance to Revolting Children from Matilda, plus they were awarded with the trophy for best costume.

The event took place just over a week ago and the team are still on a high from the event.

Staff at the school are ecstatic with the results and are overwhelmed with the effort the students put into the show.

A spokesman for Carlisle Dance Academy said: “We only started entering competitions in 2016, just under four years after opening our dance school.

“We can’t believe the huge achievements all of our pupils have made in this short space of time.

“The staff at Carlisle Dance Academy are unbelievably proud of each and every one of them and we are excited about the future.”
