Whitehaven Judo Club is set to host a celebration of its 50 years of teaching and promotion the martial art in the town tonight.

The club, which was previously known as Marchon Judo Club, will hold a celebration at the Marchon Club in Whitehaven to mark the 50th anniversary of it being opened by Brian Strickland.

Included in the event will be an afternoon of activities before a night of awards which they hope will see as many current and former member of the club turn up to share memories.

Judo games will take place from 1pm to 2.30pm with high-level judoka Dermot Heslop on hand to assist, before tea and coffee will be provided between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

European Open 2018 gold medallist Jemima Yeats Brown will also be in attendance from 3.30pm to 5pm to offer insight into her time as a 3rd Dan and Great Britain international.

All past and present judokas, their families, coaches and committee members are invited to the club from 7pm for an awards presentation and celebration.

The club has produced a booklet featuring pictures from Whitehaven Judo Club’s past.

Junior members have also been taken on trips to bowling to celebrate the anniversary of the club this year.
