COPELAND residents will stand silent to honour fallen war heroes and remember the sacrifice they made for their country this weekend.

A number of events will take place across the borough to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Copeland mayor Mike Starkie will be attending services in Whitehaven, Cleator Moor, Gosforth and Moor Row and is urging residents to join in.

He said: “Remembrance Sunday is always one of my proudest moments as elected mayor when I am able to represent Copeland Council in a parade or at a service to pay my respects to those who have given their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.

“I am always heartened by the number of families and children who come out to support the Remembrance events; it shows that the younger generations are being brought up with an awareness and respect for what Remembrance represents.”
