Cumbria Police are looking for help in tracking down an HGV carrying an orange excavator, which caused significant damage to an Appleby bridge.
The HGV, described by a police spokesman as being "a blue and white coloured HGV low-loader, which was carrying an orange coloured excavator," caused "significant" damage to the bridge at Bolton, Appleby at about 2.30 on Friday afternoon.
"It is reported that the vehicle struggled to cross the bridge and caused an obstruction to other road users for up to ten minutes prior to the collision," the spokesman added.
The HGV then "collided with the bridge wall causing significant damage to it and left the scene.
Police are appealing to anybody who may have encountered the vehicle in question at the bridge and who may have dashcam footage of it, to contact PC 2542 Hall on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting log number 123 of October 11 2019.
