A CHARITY worker has been honoured for a lifetime of work in the community at the Manchester North West Charity Awards ceremony.
The CEO of Whitehaven Community Trust, Kerry Maxwell OBE received the Highly Commended Lifetime Achievement on Friday September 27.
Whitehaven Community Trust is the only Cumbrian charity with a member that won the award.
Kerry said: "I think it's the first time someone in Cumbria has won something there."
She added that she could not have done it without the help of her team at Whitehaven Community Trust: "It's nice for me to represent our team. They all work really hard for me."
And Kerry is pleased that the award has come in anticipation of the trust's thirtieth anniversary: "It raises our profile, letting people know that we're here.
"We have helped over 800 young homeless people in 1998, set up support groups for people with mental ill health."
The community trust also ran The View Cafe on : "We always employ local people because it's about providing people with local jobs."
Whitehaven Community Trust are currently running support groups for mental ill health and a homeless hostel for young people.
