Visitors and exhibitors enjoyed the delights of Wasdale Head Shepherds' Meet and Show this weekend.

Hundreds of people flocked to the traditional annual show which featured Herdwick sheep, dog shows, fell running, and Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling.

Visitors enjoyed a host of classes and activities, including the usual sheep classes, shepherd dogs and vintage machinery.

Mike Naylor, show secretary, said it had been a "brilliant" day.

"It was a really happy day for everybody. They were all smiling. It was an excellent day.

"There were a lot of visitors. We had nearly £3,000 on the gate.

"Everybody I have spoken to has said what a great day it was. I have had countless emails."

Mr Naylor said they now need more volunteers to help with organising the show, as it continues to grow.

"We need some new members on the committee with the show getting bigger and bigger."

He also thanked everyone who had helped make this year's event possible.

"I would like to thank everybody who had anything to do with it. The judge, Victoria Watson, did a great job, and Alan Tubman, who does the announcing. Everybody was brilliant.

"I would like to thank all the judges and exhibitors. Without them we would not have a show."

The show has been running for more than 100 years. It is believed that the Shepherds' Meet started off with farmers from Wasdale meeting the farmers from the adjoining valleys of Ennerdale, Buttermere, Borrowdale, Eskdale and Langdale, who walked their rams over to Wasdale Head to trade them, swap them or hire them.
