A town centre children's playroom is offering free childcare for Thomas Cook employees.

Angela Greasley, owner of Tot Spot in Whitehaven, is looking to help all parents who have been made redundant following the closure of the travel group.

And the best way she knows how to offer her support is by providing free childcare to Thomas Cook employees attending interviews, writing their CVs, job-hunting, or who simply need "a cup of tea and a shoulder to cry on".

The caring playroom owner explained why the team are offering the childcare service for free, and said: "It's because we can. If you can do something to help, why wouldn't you want to do it?"

With half an hour of care costing £4, and two hours costing £12, Angela didn't want the cost of childcare to put parents off finding a new job, and is happy to give those left unemployed "time to just sit and think about what they want to do".

"We just want to help. A huge amount of people are out of work now, so anything we can do to help, we'll do it."

She added: "We have WiFi and a printer if they need to print their CVs while we keep their children entertained.

"We aren't a charity, but we are a business that cares about people, so hopefully people feel welcome enough to come and use the service."

This isn't the first time Tot Spot have given parents their support, as the group also offer free childcare to mums who are attending a smear test – a service they provide all year round.
