An Egremont-based nuclear firm has stepped in to help organisers of this weekend's town's crab fair at the 11th hour.

James Fisher Nuclear was approached by organisers after one of the sponsors of tonight's Dancing in the Street stage, had to pull out.

The free Friday night event is headlined by former X Factor winner and Coronation Street star Shayne Ward.

Callum Scott, committee chairman, said: “We’d just like to thank James Fisher Nuclear for stepping in at short notice and co-sponsoring the Dancing In The Street stage.

"This is a relatively recent addition to the fair and is very popular with families and creates a great atmosphere on Main Street.”

Stuart Yellowlees, chief operating officer at James Fisher Nuclear, said: “This is an important event for Egremont that brings in visitors from not just across the UK but worldwide.

“It’s great that we have been able to help the organising committee with our sponsorship.”

Egremont Crab Fair dates back to 1267 and includes the World Gurning Championships, which this year will be held in the Falcon Club for the first time.
