IF you value a friendly environment as well as delicious food, Dee's Mexican in Workington is the right place for you.

My boyfriend Tom and I were fancying a nice meal out and headed there on a Saturday night.

The restaurant, on Ladies Walk, is huge and looks like a converted barn. The first impression was great, with a colourful floor with a graffiti-like design giving a nice warm feel to the place.

A sombrero is available on each table, making for a fun pre-dining picture opportunity (I'll spare you mine!).

The restaurant offers a varied menu with lots of tapas to choose from as well as a choice between different fillings for enchiladas, burritos, fajitas and quesadillas.

The cocktail menu looked amazing and we decided to have a little Margarita while choosing what to eat - it was really nice. Because my boyfriend Tom loves tequila, we also decided to share a tequila board. It came with a Mexican sunset cocktail, a shot of tequila with salt and lemon and a Desperado.

The cocktail, with peach schnapps, tequila, orange juice and grenadine, was very refreshing, although I personally prefer a traditional tequila sunrise as it's less sweet. The tequila shot was delicious and of great quality.

While we were waiting for our tapas, we were brought some warm bread with garlic butter, which was a lovely touch.

We shared three tapas as starters: mixed olives with bread, garlic butter, salsa and olive oil; mushrooms with onion and garlic; patatas bravas. All were absolutely delicious, very well cooked and the right amount for sharing between us.

For my main I went for a salmon fillet quesadilla with a side of fries. I also had garlic mayo and Mexican slaw to go with it.

Tom is vegetarian and I'm pleased to report there was a a huge vegetarian selection available to him. He went for an enchilada with vegetables accompanied by refried beans, guacamole and salsa.

My main was delicious, the salmon was incredibly tasty and it wasn't overloaded with cheese, which I liked. The fries were just what you would expect and went well with the garlic mayo.

The Mexican slaw was really nice and if there was one complaint, it is that I wish I had a little more. This isn't because the portion wasn't reasonable, but just because it was so nice and I am very greedy!

Tom was very happy with his enchilada and for one he was also satisfied with the portion - he does have a big appetite!

The vegetables had a nice bite to them and the salsa and refried beans were great. The only thing he was disappointed with was the guacamole. He said it tasted too creamy and not as punchy as he would have liked it.

All in all our experience of eating at Dee's was brilliant, the food was great and there is still lots I'd like to try from the menu.

The waitresses serving us were really friendly and always smiley, which is something I particularly value.

The service was quick and everything ran smoothly during our meal.

We'll definitely be back for the great food as well as the drink selection.
