Members of Wasdale Mountain Rescue team were called away from Whitehaven Emergency Services Day on Saturday to aid a stranded walker.
The team was called out just before 2.45pm to help a walker who had injured their leg when walking up Scafell Pike.
A team member already on the fell went to the scene and assessed the injury.
In view of the location high on Broad Crag assistance was requested from the Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick who treated the casualty then winched them aboard for the journey to hospital.
Fifteen team members were involved in the rescue.
