A 20-YEAR-OLD driver appeared in court after he crashed head on with an oncoming vehicle - causing serious injuries to the other driver.

Kieran Simon Halligan, was driving on Steel Brow in Frizington on February 26 when his Seat Ibiza crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

He was charged with driving without due care and attention, by failing to drive to the conditions of low sun/dazzle.

The other driver suffered serious injuries, which included two sternum fractures, multiple rib fractures, left pulmonary haemorrhage, fractured heel bone and bruising/soft tissue damage.

Both cars were written off in the crash.

Halligan, of Pica Cottages in Workington, pleaded guilty to the charge via single justice procedure on August 6.

He was fined £275, told to pay a surcharge of £30, was ordered to pay £85 in costs and had eight points added to his licence.
