AFTER months and countless hours of revision, pupils at Millom School held their breath in anticipation as they found out their A Level results yesterday.

There were smiles, hugs, handshakes and a few tears as the school, on Salthouse Road, enjoyed its ‘best A Level results in years’ according to sixth form director of learning, Colin Nunn.

As well as receiving their results, the school’s pupils are beginning preparations to say goodbye to their hometown and hello to life at university.

Dominic Raven, 18, who has autism, achieved the most impressive results throughout the year.

He said: “I got an A in Biology, an A in Chemistry, A in Physics, and an A* in Geography.

“I’m heading to the University of Nottingham to study Physics in September.”

Millom cousins Lucy and Ellie Simons, both 18, have been helping each other over the last few months through many school library and home-study sessions.

Lucy said: “I got a B in Media Studies, A* in English Literature and a Distinction* in IT.

“I’m heading to Lancaster University to study English Literature as a degree.”

Speaking about what she wants to do after studying at university, Lucy revealed she is considering sports journalism.

“I enjoy writing and reading, and I have a passion for professional wrestling, so sports journalism would interest me,” she said.

Ellie picked up a Distinction in Performing Arts, a C in Biology and a C in Geography.

“I’m off to Edge Hill to study Musical Theatre in September as I have a lot of interest in acting,” said Ellie.

Mr Nunn said: “This has been the best A Level results in years.”

Steve Newell, chair of governors, said: “It’s great to see so many students being awarded the results they need for the next stage of their education or working life.”
