A teenager and a 58-year-old man have died in a two-vehicle accident on a north Cumbrian road.

In a statement this morning, Cumbria Police confirmed that the two died following a collision on the B5302 near Abbeytown yesterday afternoon.

The tragedy happened at around 1.30pm.

That was when police were alerted to a report of the two vehicle road collision.

The accident involved a Vauxhall Astra car and a HGV.

The police statement said: "As a result of the collision, the driver of the Astra, a 58 year-old man and the front seat passenger, a 15 year old girl, both from Silloth, sadly died at the scene.

Their family have been informed and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed."

The driver of the HGV, a 46-year-old woman from Carlisle, was taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle.

She was taken there as a precaution, said police.
