CARLISLE Mencap is to serve up a sizzling summer barbecue this weekend.

The charity will hold it at their Grace Little Centre in Kingstown on Saturday, August 17.

The branch, which provides support and services for more than 500 adults and children with learning disabilities and their families across Cumbria, say the event has proved popular in the past – and hope to have a very special guest this year.

Events and fundraising officer Phil Taylor said: “The High Sheriff of Cumbria, Marcia Reid Fotheringham, says she is hoping to pay us a visit which would be marvellous.

“Let’s just hope the weather behaves. It promises to be a fun, fundraising day.”

The event is from 12.30pm to 4pm and admission is free – attendees just need to pay for food and drinks. There will be vegetarian/vegan options as well as the usual burgers and sausages.

As well as the barbecue, there will be a tombola and competitions.

The event, in the gardens at the Grace Little Centre, next door to the entrance to Kingmoor Park North, is suitable for all ages.

All proceeds will go to Carlisle Mencap.
