Storm warnings for Cumbria have now been extended, with the county braced for 54 hours of torrential weather.

Met Office forecasters originally predicted Saturday's thunderstorm warning - which comes into force at 12am -would end at midnight, however it has now revised the warning, with it set to last until 6am on Sunday.

This is in addition to the 24 hour heavy rain warning already in place for tomorrow, which comes with a "danger to life" warning.

The yellow warning for rain brings with it a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

The Met Office is also warning there is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are also a possibility.

Spray and flooding could also lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

There is a small chance that some communities could become cut off by flooded roads.

The yellow warning for thunderstorms says some areas of the county could miss the weather completely, however other parts could expect up to 40mm of rain in three hours.

The Met Office says there is a warning of a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater or lightning strikes.

The conditions may lead to difficult driving conditions, the forecaster has warned.

Both warnings predict that there is a low likelihood of the weather events, but the conditions described would have a high impact.
