A SPECIAL awareness day is being held in Keswick to raise awareness of macular disease.

The disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK and the event will help people explore the wide range of user-friendly gadgets and equipment designed to make everyday tasks easier.

Showcasing the support that is available is vital, as many people who lose their sight can find it difficult to come to terms with the loss.

Julie Swan, Macular Society regional manager, said: “Events like these are a great way to raise awareness of macular disease. They also allow us to highlight the help and support available to people who are visually impaired and how to access it.”

A number of specialists will be at the free event which takes place from 11am to 2pm on August, 8, at St Herbert’s Social Centre, High Hill.
