A TRANQUIL haven from the hustle and bustle of a busy Brampton school has been given a new lease of life.

William Howard’s sensory garden has had its grand reopening after being renovated by defence contracting firm Landmarc, based at the nearby RAF Spadeadam.

Officially opened last Wednesday by RAF Spadeadam’s station chief Wing Commander Tim McAauley and Lamdmarc area delivery manager Jeff Hudson, the sensory garden renovation had been orchestrated by William Howard’s forces liaison officer Lizzie McGaffin, and Jeremy Lawton, Spadeadam’s base support squadron commander.

Spokeswoman for the school, Karen Williams, said: “The learning support sensory garden at William Howard had recently become overgrown, unloved and unused by the students.

“Fortunately, the defence contractors Landmarc based at RAF Spadeadam were looking to complete a community project and chose to create a new garden for our students.

“The STEM Club - Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths - at William Howard, run by learning support assistant John Gibson, developed ideas and designs for the new garden area.

Jeff Hudson said his team had been happy to help bring the garden back to a ship-shape condition.

“This has been a wonderful opportunity which the Landmarc team are proud to have been a part of,” he said.

“We really hope that the children enjoy the garden as much as the team have enjoyed building it for them”.

Wing Commander McAuley was pleased to officially open the garden, which has been christened the “Reflection and Flowers (RAF) garden”.

“It’s a great pleasure to be able to help William Howard School, who give superb support to all of the Service Children that go there,” he said.

“I know a lot of hard work has gone into this project but the smiles on the children’s faces have made all of the hard work worthwhile.”
