HUNDREDS of people packed Carlisle Cathedral this morning to say goodbye to John Myers.

The legendary broadcaster’s funeral service was an emotional event which saw mourners laughing and crying as John’s family and friends paid tribute to him.

John’s son Scott gave a moving speech, saying: “Our hearts are broken, but also bursting with love.”

He described his father as “a kind, loving, incredible man who filled our lives with joy.”

Former colleagues told of how John had become their best friend.

Simon Cole said that John had recorded a video message wishing him a happy birthday last year, while John was undergoing cancer treatment.

Each mourner was given a packet of forget-me-not seeds to plant in memory of John.

Donations were taken for The Northern Head and Neck Cancer Charity, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, and Carlisle Cathedral.

The service was followed by a private burial at St Michael’s Church, Stanwix.
