Mourners will be able to attend the funeral of legendary Carlisle auctioneer David Thomlinson in the mart where he spent 57 years of his working life.

Family and former colleagues have taken the unusual decision to live stream 73-year-old David’s service at Borderway Mart, at Rosehill, because of the high numbers expected to pay their respects.

The funeral is set to take place at noon on Tuesday, at All Saints Church in Scaleby, but the decision to webcast David’s service was taken by family after it was realised the tiny village could not cope with the numbers of mourners already reaching four figures.

Warm tributes flooded in for David, who passed away last Saturday after a tragic accident on the family farm at Scaleby, while he had been working with a newborn calf in a pen.

Across the globe David was highly regarded as an auctioneer, an expert of pedigree livestock and a judge.

Heather Pritchard, H&H pedigree sales and marketing manager, confirmed the numbers wishing to pay their respects had already reached four figures.

“The family took the decision to live stream David’s service at Borderway because of parking congestion at Scaleby, and to ensure everyone could participate,” she said.
