Armed police have carried out extensive searches in Whitehaven following reports of a man with a firearm.
A police spokesman said a report, made around 6.45pm, suggested a man with a gun was in the area of Wilson Pit Road, near Kells.
He said police had found 'nothing suspicious'.
He added: "A full search of the area, supported by the precautionary deployment of armed officers, was carried out and nothing has been found.
"Police would like to reassure people there is no perceived risk to the public at this time."
Anyone with information should call police on 101, referring log 199 of June 12.
