Two major Carlisle rivers have been taken off flood alert - but heavy rain is set to continue.
The Environment Agency put the Rivers Caldew and Petteril on flood alert yesterday afternoon.
They were among 12 issued across the country as heavy rain hit.
They covered the two rivers from the Lakeland fells all the way to the confluence of the two rivers in Carlisle.
However the alerts have been lifted this morning after levels peaked.
A Environment Agency spokesman said: "Overnight rainfall has been less intense than forecast and whilst river levels will continue to rise over the next few hours they are expected to remain below Flood Alert levels.
"Our incident response staff will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day."
The Met Office is predicting heavy rain will continue across Cumbria for most of the day, easing off tonight.
Tomorrow is set to be better day, with sunshine and some showers forecast.
