A MILLOM man in his 30s was airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision near Broughton-in-Furness.

Firefighters, police officers, paramedics and an air ambulance crew attended a collision on the C5009 road between Wreaks Causeway (A595) and Broughton at around 7am this morning.

The incident involved a motorbike and a Jaguar.

Police said that the "motorbike was on fire at one point" and the driver, who has been identified as a man in his 30s from the Millom area, was airlifted to Preston Hospital.

A fire engine from Broughton also attended the crash following reports of a vehicle on fire.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Firefighters administered oxygen to one casualty before ambulance arrival.

"Crews were in attendance for around one hour and five minutes."

The C5009 road between Wreaks Causeway (A595) and Broughton was also closed for a while following the incident.
