POLICE continue to appeal for witnesses after the death of a man who was struck by a car.
The 37-year-old, from Cockermouth, is understood to have been walking on the A66 bypass, near Great Clifton, when he was hit by a car in the early hours of Sunday.
The car involved was a Citroen driven by a 25-year-old man, also from the Cockermouth area.
Police have not yet released the identity of the man. Specially trained officers are supporting his family, said a force spokesman.
Among the potential witnesses being sought is a taxi driver who was seen in the area at about the time of the collision.
The man was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle but later died of his injuries. The driver of the Citroen was not injured in the incident.
Police were alerted to the incident at 3.30am and closed the road for several hours.
Call 101 with information.
