MORESBY’S Rosehill is hosting a triple-header weekend of entertainment featuring two stalwarts of the music scene and an Edinburgh Fringe comedy star.

Top British jazz singer Claire Martin brings her Believin’ It tour on Friday, May 17 at 8pm, immediately following a two-day performance at the world-famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.

Hailed by The Sunday Times as “our finest jazz singer”, Claire has held audiences spellbound for over 30 years by her interpretation of song lyrics and ability to reveal their stories with trademark warmth and authenticity while remaining true to the jazz tradition.

Believin’ It showcases the technique and timbre that has seen Claire receive a British Jazz Award eight times. The album is a collection of songs spanning the last five decades, revitalised through the arrangements of Swedish pianist and composer Martin Sjöstedt.

The following night it’s the turn of Dublin-born comedian Andrew Maxwell with Showtime.

A memorable cocktail of personal stories, astute political observations and the odd foray into character cameos, this show by one of the most universally acclaimed acts of the Edinburgh Fringe won a barrage of five-star reviews.

Andrew is known for his passionate current-affairs comedy on BBC Radio 4, including The News Quiz, Welcome To Wherever You Are, and Public Enemies. On TV he’s been seen on, among others, Live at the Apollo (BBC One), Have I Got News for You (BBC One), Celebrity Juice (ITV2) and Mock the Week (BBC Two), and to a new generation he is the devilish voice of MTV’s Ex On The Beach.

His performance on Saturday, May 18 begins at 8pm.

On Sunday, May 19, guitarist extraordinaire and British-born country-rock artist Albert Lee will prepare to raise the roof from 7pm. Undoubtedly one of the finest guitarists the world has seen, double Grammy Award winner Albert is also an accomplished piano player and has a soulful voice equally at home with rock and roll. A co-writer of Country Boy and many other great songs, he has played on countless sessions worldwide and is in demand by many of the music industry’s finest artistes.

In 2017 he was awarded a trailblazer award by the Americana Society of the UK and in February 2018 Albert Lee and Band appeared on the “for one night only” special of the Old Grey Whistle Test.

n Tickets to all three performances are available at rosehilltheatre.co.uk or 01946 692422.
