A woman has died following a crash near Carlisle.

Andrea King, 55, was travelling west on the A689 close to Houghton when her car was in collision with an HGV.

Emergency services were called out at 10.10pm on Friday.

Mrs King, from Low Westwood, County Durham, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where she later died.

A Cumbria spokeswoman said: " Sadly Mrs King died as a result of her injuries.

"Her family are being supported at this time and have said thank you to the emergency services who helped."

Police are appealing for information and have asked if anyone has any dash cam footage or witnessed the incident to call 101.
