West Cumberland Hospital's cancer ward have received a £1,000 cheque from WYG.

WYG managing director Craig Hatch visited the Henderson Suite to present the charity money to its staff.

The reason behind the donation is that members of the company's social club have been affected by cancer.

"Having that facility in the area is really important."

Funds were raised through a charity scheme ran by WYG.

Mr Hatch said: "It's a company policy but we've had it place for 20 years or more.

"Our social club choose an annual charity," he said, "what we do is have a dress down Friday every week."

Staff put one pound in the pot and "we top it up to a nice round figure."

Susan Harrison from the social club behind the fundraiser was in attendance at the event.

They are passionate about supporting causes close to home: "It's always a local charity, we try and do it for Cumbrian and West Cumbrian charities," said Mr Hatch.

The Henderson Suite is a chemotherapy centre which re-opened in August 2018 with upgraded facilities.

West Cumberland Hospital's cancer ward has been the subject of numerous charity fundraisers at every stage of its development.

Now that it is up and running in a new space, WYG look to support it's continued growth.
