A west Cumbrian man is to be sentenced later this month for the illegal possession of three drugs with intent to supply.

Paul Benson, 48, faced a total of five charges when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday. Benson admitted the possessing of two class B controlled drugs and one class C substance, all with intent to supply.

In addition, Benson pleaded guilty to acquiring, using or possessing criminal property - cash - knowing or suspecting it constituted a person’s benefit from criminal property.

Benson further admitted possession of an article - a blue badge parking permit in the name of Paul Lee - for use in fraud.

All of his crimes were said to have been committed on August 4 last year.

His lawyer, Paul Tweddle, outlined the written basis put forward for the defendant’s admissions to each of the crimes.

Judge Barbara Forrester adjourned the case, and asked for a probation service report to be prepared for the sentencing hearing.

This is due to take place at the crown court on Tuesday.

In the meantime Benson, of Barncroft Avenue, Seaton, Workington, was granted unconditional bail by the judge.
