An overturned lorry blocked part of the A595 in west Cumbria today.

Emergency services attended the scene at the roundabout at the Lillyhall end of Distington bypass.

A spokesman for Cumbria police said the driver was uninjured but part of the road would remain closed while the scene was cleared.

Whitehaven News:

The lorry, which was carrying lifting equipment, had blocked the roundabout between the turn-offs for the old Distington road and the Distington bypass.

Traffic heading north from Parton was able to use the bypass, but anyone heading south from Lillyhall had to use the old road.

The police advised drivers to use alternative routes for their journeys to avoid the area.

The scene was cleared by 3pm.
