Carlisle's newest branch of KFC is to bring scores of new jobs to the city.

Ahead of their new drive-through premises opening just off London Road in Botcherby, the fast-food chain is looking to take on a number of roles, including cooks, team leaders and team members.

The new chicken shop is set to open its doors in a few weeks - although an opening date has yet to be formally announced.

The drive-through will have indoor and outdoor seating, along with 25 car park spaces, and will serve its popcorn chicken, wraps and box meals after an absence in the city for six months.

A spokesman from KFC said: "Our new addition on London Road will create 50 full-time and part-time jobs in the local area as well as bring our tasty chicken closer to our fans.

"Anyone wishing to join the KFC team in Carlisle should check out our careers page online.’’

However, the recruitment drive also sparked rumours that the store in the Lanes Shopping Centre would reopen, after a number of similar vacancies were posted online last week for the former two-story branch.

The city centre store closed its doors to customers following the end of its lease in October last year.

The spokesman added that the store in the Lanes Centre is not set to reopen.

He said: "The job advertisements were put up in error and have since been removed."

Work commenced on the new KFC outlet, based at the former Harraby Green Service Station, in October, a week after the closure of the Lanes store.

The fried chicken giant, which arrived in Carlisle in 2002, also has branches in Workington, Penrith, Barrow and in Gretna.
