A flurry of new babies have arrived at a Lake District attraction just in time for Easter.

The new arrivals are settling into life at the Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite, near Keswick.

The special deliveries range from a newborn lemur to rare Soay lambs, and a pen full of playful Tamworth piglets to some Galloway calves.

The youngsters are exploring their new homes and preparing to meet the public for the first time.

The 10-day old baby lemur joins the park’s existing troop of ring-tailed lemurs.

Meanwhile, the Tamworth pig is one of the oldest breeds of domestic pig and is the only breed of red pig in the UK. The belted Galloway cattle are another domestic rare breed which make their home on the wider Armathwaite Hall estate as part of a conservation project to help with meadow management.

The adorable additions have arrived just in time to add to Easter activities running until Friday, April 26.

They include daily animal feeding sessions with alpacas, goats and zebu, as well as Easter cuddles with guinea pigs and rabbits.

There are also themed craft activities and a golden egg trail for families to follow.

A duck race down the tapir river will take place every day over Easter Weekend in aid of the park’s three designated charities, which are the Red Panda Network, SEED Madagascar and the International Vulture Programme.

Education and marketing co-ordinator Lucy Dunn said: “There is always a fantastic atmosphere at this time of year, with the promise of new life and new beginnings.

"We are looking forward to introducing our newest additions to visitors over the next couple of weeks and seeing the faces of the children - and adults – who are meeting the animals for the first time.”
