Family and friends of a popular Egremont man who died suddenly last month will gather at a charity night organised in his honour.

Darrell Pattison died on March 16 and his funeral at Distington crematorium was attended by between 300 and 400 people.

Now Darrell’s girlfriend of three years, Emma Shackley, has organised a fundraising night in memory of him.

It will support CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably, which is the leading movement against male suicide.

The event will take place at the Seacote Hotel in St Bees on Friday, May 17 and tickets are almost sold out.

Emma, 20, hopes to raise £2,000 from the fundraiser, and if successful it could become an annual event in Darrell’s memory.

The event is supported by Darrell’s family and friends and many businesses have donated prizes for the raffle.

It will feature music from Springfield, Zoe and Lee, Paul Shepherd, Josh Pears and the Rogues.

Emma is keen to raise awareness of just how many people are affected by mental ill health, and to encourage people to be kind to others whose circumstances they might not understand.

Emma described Darrell as “an extremely caring and selfless person”.

She went on to say: "He had a brilliant sense of humour and he was someone who would light up the room when he walked in.

"He meant a lot to a lot of people so I want to keep his memory alive."
