THREE people were taken to hospital following a serious crash which shut a main West Cumbrian road.
A 74-year-old man, a 73-year-old woman, both of Workington, suffered serious injuries, while a 38-year-old man from Maryport was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash happened at around 9.30am on the A596 near Dunmail Park, Workington.
The Workington man, who was driving a Ford Fiesta, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the woman, a passenger in the car, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with serious but not life changing injuries.
The Maryport man was the driver of a Tata Safari.
The road was shut for several hours with police, fire and ambulance service, including the air ambulance, all in attendance.
