HUNDREDS of runners have taken part in a 10-mile run spanning three villages.

The two-lap event, named the Three Village 10, started off in Wetheral and passed through Scotby and Cumwhinton, before ending at Wetheral Community Hall on Sunday.

Organiser Claire Allen, from Sport in Action, said this year’s run was their best yet.

“This is the third year of the three village run.

“It’s grown each year, and we increased the number from last year - which has sold out again.

“We’re really pleased that people are coming along, are enjoying the race, and are enjoying the whole atmosphere of the event.

“We’ve had runners from far and wide who came along to the run, with a growing number of regulars who come back again and again to take part.”

A number of running groups from Carlisle and beyond came to take part in the run.

“We’ve got the local clubs, including DH Runners, Carlisle Tri, Eden Runners, Border Reiver runners, who all came back to do it,” she added.

In total, about 350 runners got involved, making up the highest number of people to have attended.

Despite a range of roadworks going on at various stages of the course, the organisers worked with Electricity North West to ensure the run went ahead smoothly.

“This year we sent a lead bike out around the course - which goes in two loops of five miles - to make sure that everyone taking part got back safely.

“We also presented every runner with our new medals for 2019, which we designed ourselves.

“We like to have nice big, bespoke medals, and I think that it reflects the area that people are running in.”

Jonathan Cox from Eden Runners was the first male the finish with a time of 55 minutes and 32 seconds.

He was followed by Nadia Show from Cumberland AC, who was the first female to finish the run, completing it in a time of one hour, five minutes and 11 seconds.

The run is set to return once again on Sunday, April 5, 2020.
