The emergency services were called out to deal with a fire at a house in Cleator Moor.
Fire crews from Whitehaven and Frizington raced to the property, in Duke Street, about 1am this morning.
The blaze had been confined to a first floor room.
A fire service spokesperson said: "Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel and one thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire."
The team spent about one hour at the scene.
