Whitehaven Rambling Club has raised more than £1,000 for a service which helped their president’s recovery following major heart surgery.
Bill Stainton underwent the surgery last year and was helped in his recovery by the staff and facilities of Hearthaven at the West Cumberland Hospital.
In return, he started a fundraising drive with the main event being Whitehaven Harbour’s New Year’s Eve dip.
Members of the rambling club gathered sponsor money to take part in the event.
The dip, together with collections, donations and a tombola, raised £1,188 for Hearthaven.
The cheque has now been handed over to Hearthaven staff.
The money will be used for equipment and training for the facility.
