CUMBRIA Police have revealed two hotspot areas where dozens of drivers have flouted traffic light signals.

Officers have warned motorists not to run the red lights after a survey found many were ignoring the change.

It follows reports from members of the public about drivers ignoring the red lights on Scotland Road at Mulcaster Crescent and Etterby Street.

A survey recorded 51 vehicles in a single day running red lights at the two spots.

Collision reduction officer Norman Black said: “This type of driving offence puts all road users at risk including other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

“We will be following up on the findings of this survey and will be taking action against any drivers we find wilfully ignoring the lights in an attempt to shave time from their journey.

“Our officers will also be taking the opportunity to target other drivers who put road users at risk including those driving whilst on their mobile phone and those driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.”
