An empty shop could be turned into a new wine bar in Whitehaven town centre.

Aileen Pearson, who runs The Vine Hotel in Market Place, has applied to Copeland Borough Council for planning permission to transform the ground floor of the former Coral betting shop in King Street into a nightspot.

The plans claim that six full-time and three part-time jobs would be created by developing the building, which would also contain two flats.

The bar would be open from Thursday to Sunday and on Bank Holidays.

The unit has been empty for a number years.

The application will be considered by the council’s planning panel.
