Maryport Maritime Museum is looking for volunteers but only applicants willing to communicate with people from all over the world and to learn more about their town and even their own families need apply.

Volunteers are needed urgently on all days but especially for Saturday mornings or afternoons.

Spokeswoman Linda Wyatt said no experience is necessary and what people receive in return makes the experience worthwhile.

"You get to work in an historic building on the quayside in Maryport, telling people from all over the world about our town’s heritage. As a volunteer for Maryport Maritime Museum, you can learn more about your town and maybe your own family history."

Maryport has a rich history of ship building as well as being a busy port.

The maritime museum is quite small but is packed with objects each telling their own fascinating story.

"The museum was given new life in 2011 by a group of volunteers who are keen to promote the town’s social, industrial and maritime history.

!We are now looking for more volunteers who would like to meet people and share our story and take part in projects such as exhibitions and historical research."

Volunteers must be over 18.
