Customers may recognise the photo copier and cash machine in a village store – but that is all that remains after a £50,000 makeover.
Flimby Select Convenience Store and Post Office was taken over by new owners in March last year.
Lorraine Hunter said she and husband Paul, both of Barrow, carried out some initial changes but on Saturday they will relaunch, giving customers old and new the chance to see a totally revamped shop and the opportunity to win prizes including a 50 inch TV.
Everything including wiring, flooring, lighting and shelving have been replaced.
“Literally the only things left are the copier and cash machine.”
The investment of £50, 000 (“It may be more, we haven’t had all the bills yet) represents confidence in the future of the village store.
“We are hoping we will start attracting people from outside the village as well as our local customers,” she said.
Mrs Hunter said new lines of groceries and food have been added and all are easier to find. There is also now capacity for chilled wine and drinks and the alcohol section is better displayed.
The Post Office will operate as usual between 9am and 6pm each day.
Select Convenience employs 11 people, all local except for the Hunters themselves.
