A CONSULTATION into plans to extend St Bees Head Heritage Coast has been launched.

St Bees Head is the only Heritage Coast between Wales and Scotland and the only area of high sea cliffs in the North West.

And now people are being asked to have their say by February 15 on plans to extend the designation to stretch up the coast as far as Whitehaven.

Copeland council, which is behind the plans, says the extension would increase opportunities for grant funding and tourism; enable better maintenance through appropriate environmental management measures; enhance protection of the coast through the planning system.
