The Arlecdon History Group are close to releasing their final book: 'Frizington's Early Education'.

“Sadly this will be the last effort from Arlecdon History Group” said Jean Birdsall. The Frizington based historical group have published numerous books in the past, making them available in Arlecdon Post Office, Cleator Moor libraries and The Lingla Centre.

However, Jean Birdsall said: “We are getting too long in the tooth for all the research and preparing the book for publication.” The book is made up of two parts, one comprised of information collected from school log books and the other, former pupil's memories. 'Frizington's Early Education' explores the lives of pupils at St. Paul’s C of E, St. Joseph’s R.C and Frizington Board School.

Establishments that were also mentioned include; Frizington Council School, St. Cuthbert’s R.C Secondary School and Ehenside Secondary.

On her findings, Jean Birdsall said: "It is interesting to note that St. Joseph's in the very early days took all denominations as it was the only school in the village."

Speaking of what people can take from the book, Jean Birdsall said: "When reading the book, readers will be able to identify with some of the reminiscences and to possibly recognise themselves with their friends/family on some of the class photos."

Arlecdon History Group are set to distribute the books from December 31 and it the book will be priced at £10. Michael Moon’s bookshop in Whitehaven will stock the book as well as the Frizington, Cleator Moor and Arlecdon post offices; Thompson’s Bakery, The Vet’s Club, The Lingla Centre and The Cutting Room.
