Cheerleading and stunt teams from West Cumbria's Cheer Fitness and Fun are celebrating after winning awards at a top competition in Blackpool.

Three stunt groups competed at mini, junior and senior level at the British Cheerleading Association (BCA) competition with the mini stunt group level one getting a first, the junior stunt group getting a first in level two and the senior stunt group being awarded third at level two.

There was stiff competition with over 500 people taking part over the two days.

All three cheerleading teams train at the Allstar Factory in Workington, run by owner and coach Amy Brown.

Amy said: "My teams put so much work in to their routines that I can never not be proud of them, but this weekend really showed that with enough belief you can get the results you want. The girls bond, work as a team and pull together and I'm proud to say I helped create that. It's not always about the first place trophies (although that is a great plus factor) it's about what else you can get for a journey like this, a team sport, knowing that your team mate has your back and for girls I think that's a rare find."

Girls commit to a nine month season, working on routines to enable them to compete all over the country and internationally.

In March some of the girls travelled to Paris to compete, and came away with first place in youth one, senior one, junior two stunt, junior individual and second place in youth individual. In addition the junior two stunt group won grand champion as they had the highest score out of all the stunt groups in the competition.

The team also took part in the Disneyland parade, walking in front of thousands of people.

Looking ahead Amy added: "Our teams have just started their fourth cheer season, we have some new faces who are really excited to have made it on to our teams and are looking forward to their first team competition in March and we have some new stunt teams in the making. Our new mini stunt group have already become division champions so I'm excited to see how they progress over the season. We're also trying some new divisions with our senior groups this season which I'm just as excited to see play out."

Singing lessons are also provided at the Allstar Factory. The Allstar Singing School have performed at many local carnivals, festivals and events, singing recently for the Castle mount residential home and children's ward at West Cumberland Hospital.
