SCHOOL pupils teamed up with Cockermouth Civic Trust to help improve the town’s beauty.

All Saints’ School helped plant 30 trees on St Helen’s Street.

A plan to improve the scenery around the eastern side of the road has been in the works since summer 2017, however, the project has only recently become a reality.

Julian Smith, of Allerdale Council, and Cockermouth Travel’s Paul Cusack were key to getting the plan over the line.

Mr Smith submitted a planning application on behalf of the civic trust, and Cockermouth Travel supplied 30 rowan and birch trees for the project.

He said this was to “put something back into the community.”

Mr Cusack said: “I jumped at the chance.”

Placing the trees close to the school is a legacy for the pupils involved in the project, “it’s something going forward that they’ll be able to look back on.”

The planting was completed on Friday afternoon by members of Cockermouth Civic Trust, students of All Saints’ School and Paul Cusack representing. Cockermouth Travel.
