Police are appealing for information after a man entered a property in west Cumbria and claimed he was a salesman when confronted by the occupier.

It happened in the area of Hollins Park, Moor Row, on December 5 and was described as a "suspicious incident".

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said officers are investigating the incident and are asking homeowners to remain vigilant.

"A man wearing a dark hooded jumper and jeans has entered through an unlocked door of a property. When confronted by the occupant of the property the man claimed that he was a salesman, but had nothing with him and no ID badge.

"The man was told to leave and he walked off down the street, not stopping at any other address.

"Police would like to remind anyone who lives in or near this area to be vigilant and keep your doors and windows locked, and do not leave any valuables with in plain sight."
