A WHITEHAVEN congregation is preparing to celebrate Christmas with a special service.
Around 200 children and their parents are expected to take part in the annual Crib and Christingle service at St James’ Church on Christmas Eve. And Tesco has once again donated oranges for the popular service.
Anne Blamire, of the church, said she was grateful for the supermarket chain’s donation.
She added: “The local community always comes out in force for the service. There’s a really good atmosphere and it’s a nice start to Christmas for a lot of children. It’s lovely to see their smiley faces when they come with their parents – it’s a lovely way to enter Christmas.”
Anne explained that the orange represents the world, while a red ribbon tied around the fruit represents the blood of Christ.
Four sticks represent the seasons and a lit candle symbolises the love of God. She added the service had a nativity theme and is always well attended.
Everyone is welcome to attend the service at 4pm.
